We're a not-for-profit company telling big stories with small casts — musicals and plays you can sink your teeth into, performed by your neighbours, your tradies, your teachers, your kids. Where theatre magic brings community together.
Picket Fence Theatre Company is a brand-new not-for-profit, founded in 2023 right here in Gladstone. Our goal is simple — create quality performing arts and musical theatre opportunities for the Gladstone community.
We were built around a particular kind of show — musicals and plays that don't demand cinematic budgets or thirty-piece casts. Tight ensembles. Honest sets. Stories that hit hard because the people on stage are people you might run into at the IGA tomorrow.
We're proud to complement the great arts already happening in the Gladstone region — and to make a little more room at the table.
The Musical — our debut production
It’s 1985, and rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. A big-hearted musical that opened our company with a roar, and reminded Gladstone why live theatre matters.
“An absolute knockout — the singing, the staging, the heart.”
“You'd never guess this was their first production.”
“Gladstone has been waiting for a company like this.”
A volunteer committee of teachers, musicians, performers and one self-described “voice of reason.” Together we steer Picket Fence — and we'd love to hear from anyone keen to join the chorus.
We're a not-for-profit, and we run on the support of local businesses and individuals who believe in what live theatre does for a community. Choose the role that suits — every level helps us keep the lights on.
